Ski Size and Shape

As a rule, your skis should be shorter if you’re a beginner to intermediate or you weigh less than average for your height. Shorter skis are more maneuverable, and are ideal for those who just want to go down the mountain at a leisurely pace. Longer skis on the other hand are ideal for fast to aggressive skiing, as well as those who often go off the usual trail.

The ski’s shape, on the other hand, plays a big role in how fast you turn. Narrower skis have a shorter turn radius and thus, turn faster. Skis with a wider waist turn more slowly, but offers better performance in variable conditions.

Snow and Terrain

The kind of snow and terrain you’ll be skiing on should also play a big role in your choice of skis. Not all mountains are perfectly groomed and smooth, and more often than not, it may have plenty of smaller slopes and rough edges that may force you to do many evasive maneuvers.
