Pro Ski Reminder: Never Skip Base Layer Clothing When Skiing

Venting zips, insulated jackets and all the other permutations of insulated ski outfits will keep you warm and dry, but without the base layer clothing you may be veering away from comfort.

Comfort Starts in Base Layer Clothing

Base layer clothing is the garment lying next to your skin.  We at Pedigree Ski Shop have a vast array of performance underwear for men, women and children.

These base layers are necessary in complete ski outfits because they provide fundamental protection against temperature. One of its primary roles is regulating the body temperature. Your skin continuously perspires even during cold weather. Trapping the moisture on your skin makes you feel clammy. The wrong fabric or thickness can cause insufficient insulation.

Choosing Your Ski Undergarments

Here are some tips to choose the right base layer:

  • Decide what type you will need.  Light to midweight base layers are great for more active sports and are the most versatile with the greatest comfort range.  In addition to being a base layer, they can also be used as a single layer in warmer temperatures. Heavyweight is the warmest layer and is good for keeping warm during less active sports or if you tend to get cold easily and can also be used as a stand alone piece.
  • Manufacturers will present you with different options for the material. Commonly available in the market are capilene, polypropylene, wool and silk, which can give you varying levels of comfort and performance.
  • Loose or body contouring fit depends on the type of material and if the user prefers a fiber with wicking capability.

Contact us and we will help you choose the right performance undergarments so you can enjoy your ski holiday.
